Cambodia Mission

Indy New Thought Living was started by the desire to give back to the world and to embrace Gandhi’s belief that, “we must be the change we want to see in the world”. One way we do this is by being in service here and abroad. Our trip to Peru, 2008 was a wonderful experience for all. We were able to grow as Christians and have an even better understanding of what it means to 'love they neighbor' and practice being more Christ-Like. After time in prayer we feel that God is directing us to Cambodia and Vietnam.

Cambodia has a long history dating back to the 1st Century and once ruled the Delta as a mighty empire. But in our life-time has experienced genocide of its people, the highest AIDS infected population in Asia and left over destruction from the Vietnam War.

One of our main activities on this trip will be in Cambodia volunteering in an orphanage. We have begun discussion with the Jeannine’s Children Association Orphanage in what ways we may be in service.

After leaving Phnom Penn and our time at the orphanage and other potential volunteer opportunities we plan to venture into the outback of Cambodia and Vietnam and experience the local culture. This includes elephant trekking in the jungle to small villages and staying with local families too making our way to some of the more isolated areas of the region.

We are tentatively planning this trip for November 2009, but a more practical date may be November 2010. The time of the year is critical because of the temperature in the region. Two of us already worked in 120 degree heat in Thailand for three weeks and we are planning this trip during the cooler time of year. 80’s and 90’s might not seem cooler but compared to 120’s it is a significant difference.

This trip will be funded by the volunteer work at the Indianapolis Speedway and Colts games as well as personal donations. We are expecting a larger group then Peru; we are currently at 10 positive commitments. If you are interested in participating in the fund-raising, donations or would like information on going on this experience please contact Kristie Stewart or Rev. Gloria.
